Getting ready for Santa, part two

The Sunday before Christmas we went to visit Santa at Macy's. We anticipated a ridiculous line-up and hours of waiting, but the snowstorm intervened. It was both painless and memorable, as William fully understood that he needed to make a request. He decided the day before that he was going to ask Santa for a 'firetruck'. When it was our turn with Santa, while standing 5 feet away, William softly said "Hi Santa. Hello Santa. It's me, William. (long pause) I want a... (louder)FIRE TRUCK."

William's reaction upon receiving an early gift of a MINI scooter from Auntie Tina. He uses it to get from one room to another in our apartment. "Come with me, Mommy." "Where to William?" "Mommy, you walk and I'll ride my scooter to the bedside table."
